Cornerstone

“Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone of a sure foundation...” Isaiah 28:16 ESV

Dear World, this morning the Lord helped me realize what “the cornerstone” meant. It has been one of those things that I had heard people talk about but I never understood or really took time to understand. And I’ve realized the beauty of this analogy.
I looked up the meaning of what a cornerstone did/does and this is what I learned from Wikipedia: A cornerstone is “the first stone set in the construction of foundation. All other stones will be set in reference of this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.
And then another website mentioned that in Bible times, “if removed, the entire structure would collapse.”
I’ve thought about how many times we try to replace that cornerstone with other things because we think that is what we need as our foundation. But truly that is not the case. Jesus is the true foundation of the church and should be what we build our lives on. No other source of what the world can give is going to be as strong and steady as our Lord will be.
As a younger person, sometimes we begin to doubt our future. And sometimes we base our fears on our emotions. The Lord is showing me that if we base our foundation or cornerstone on our emotions, the structure will fall down little by little. It won’t be steady and it will wobble. An unsteady foundation and start for our future can lead to opportunities for the enemy to come in and overtake. We must set the foundation of our lives on the Lord Jesus and the ways that he’s taught in the Bible and through the Holy Spirit. If we set Him as our cornerstone, our structure (life)  will be balanced, steady, not confusing and most of all Holy.
We have a choice too. We can choose all the other things the enemy would like to offer to be our cornerstone. Such as, our confusing emotions, looking by sight and not by faith, temptations, doubts and fears, and many other things he will throw at us. But one thing remains the same. Jesus.
Let’s base our lives on Jesus. Let’s give him all the blueprints and plans of everything. Let Him be the foundation upon which we stand. Our structure will not fall with Jesus on our side.
